What your Rising Sign really means

The rising sign being your "public image" is a common misconception.

The rising sign is the sign that was rising on the east horizon during the time and at the place of your birth.

This means that it is the sign in your first house in the natal chart.

The theme of the first house could be described as "me against the world".

Its your physical self, your body in the physical world around you.

Its ruled by Aries and Mars, all about independence and fighting and proving yourself in front of the world.

Its about you as an ego being seperate from the world and the people around you.

One could describe your rising sign as your "self image" rather than your "public image".

It is the way you see yourself, which is not necessarily the same way other people see you.

It is the role you think you have to fulfill to fit into this world and the kind of person you think you have to live up to being.

Of course, if you're doing a good job at living up to this role you see yourself in, others will probably also have this impression of you but this is not always the case!

Being aware of the self image you've set for yourself helps you get rid of these limiting expectations.

How do you feel about your rising sign?

  1. I think my rising sign is hard to embrace at times because it sounds so similar to my sun sign except that its far more emotional. (taur sun/cancer asc) The upside is, to be a water sign outside the house makes me feel more flexible and adds a not so boring flair to the Taurus.

  2. My rising sign doesn't fit me at all actually. I was usually bothered why is that so, I am a Sagittarius sun Cancer ascendant but I absolutely love this article :D
I feel like astrological charts don't need to determine who you are as a person, or how people see you...
I say be whoever you wanna be! And if that's what makes you happy, you couldn't have chosen better :)

    1. Thank you for the comment :)
I have actually been thinking about Ascendent signs a lot recently and I will be posting a post about why it is that you dont feel like your Ascendent sign fits you soon ^^

  3. Virgo and it sucks because I`m too shy! And communication is so important to me. Mercury is my dominant planet. Therefore, I want to speak like 24/7 but the most time I`m too shy :)) And my Taurus sun doesn`t help.

  4. I actually really love my Ascendent, Aquarius. There's something magnetic about the Aquarius sign for me, and as much as I love my Scorpio sun, I feel like Aquarius actions and beliefs fit me rather well! It's not perfect by any means, but I really do love it. My two best friends are both Aquariuses, which I've always found interesting since I feel drastically different from them emotionally. My midheaven is Sagittarius, and I quite like that too... I don't know, I think I just really love my chart in general.

  5. Mine is Pisces Ascendant and it makes sense that I don't LOOK like a Pisces ascendant. I'm actually rather angular and skinny, not dreamy looking or round like people describe Pisces ascendants to be. BUT this makes sense because I look at myself as too sensitive and that I'm too weak for this world, which is Pisces pretty much.

  6. Thanks for the article! I'm an Aquarius sun and Leo rising. They're so opposite in so many ways, but I feel that it fits me because I so often feel as though I'm a walking contradiction. I'm so cold, but it's because I feel my emotions creeping up and I want to shut them down! I'm proud, but I want to stay humble. But I don't feel as if I have to fulfill anything. I feel very Leo inside and I think I tend to come across very Aquarius on the outside. And if that's how others see me, that's how they see me. Can't really help that.
